International Day of Charity 2022 (5th September)

International Charity Day is observed on 5th September every year to mark the death anniversary of Mother Teresa and to create awareness about the significance of charity in our daily lives. International Charity Day was marked by the UN to remind us to be kind to people who need it and encourage charity.

History of International Day of Charity :

International Day of Charity started in Hungary as a way for the Hungarian Civil Society to enhance visibility, organise charitable events and raise public support for charity.

The day 5th September was chosen to commemorate the passing of Mother Teresa. She was known for her dedication to charitable work and gave her life to helping others and overcoming poverty, suffering and distress.

The day was officially declared by the United Nations in 2012 and is part of their 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development, which recognises the barriers that poverty places on international development.
