Type of Transportation of Soil :-
1. Water Transported Soils :-
- The Soils carried and deposited by
water are called alluvial deposits. [ Alluvial Soil ]
- Deposits made in lakes :- Lacustrine deposits.
- Marine deposits :- Formed at the Coastal Regions (
sea or ocean )
2. Wind Transported Soils :-
- The soil deposited by wind is called as
Aeolian deposits.
- Large sand Dunes are Formed by winds.
- Loess is a silt deposit made by winds.
3. Glacier-Deposited Soils :-
- Glaciers are large masses of ice formed by the compaction of snow. As
the glaciers grow and move, they carry with them soils varying in size from
fine grained to huge boulders.
- Drift is general term used for the deposits made by the glaciers directly or
indirectly.
- Deposits directly made by melting of glaciers are called
till.
- The deposits formed by glaciers are called as
Glaciofluvial.
4. Gravity Deposited Soils :-
- These are soils transported through short distance under the action
of Gravity.
- Colluvial soils such as
Talus have been deposited by the gravity.
